The residential programme

Four months to build a different way forward.

A staged recovery journey in which each phase has a distinct purpose and each day combines therapy, learning, reflection and rest.

Recovery takes time

Detox is the beginning, not the destination.

Kripa’s programme is abstinence-based and built around the 12 Steps. Session counts and clinical care are adapted to each resident, but the four-phase structure provides a clear path from stabilisation to everyday recovery.

01

Month 1 · Detox and stabilisation

Treatment

The first two weeks focus on medically supervised detoxification, withdrawal management and any accompanying psychiatric conditions. Shared living builds connection and a sense of safety. Individual and group sessions then begin to strengthen motivation and work through denial.

  • Detoxification
  • Psychoeducation
  • AA and NA 12-Step sessions
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Meditation and reflection
02

Month 2 · Rebuilding

Therapy

A steady daily routine helps restore discipline and confidence. Residents work on cravings, stress, anger and anxiety, while 12-Step facilitation develops honesty, acceptance, open-mindedness and willingness. Family education begins.

  • Step 1 and 2 work
  • Craving and stress management
  • Personality development
  • Family sessions
  • Yoga and daily routine
03

Month 3 · Self and relapse prevention

Awareness

Residents learn to recognise distorted thinking and replace it with healthier patterns. Personal triggers are identified, relationships are rebuilt and a practical relapse prevention plan takes shape.

  • Trigger awareness
  • Relapse prevention planning
  • Step 2 and 3 work
  • Life skills
  • Relationship rebuilding
04

Month 4 · Transition and aftercare

Planning

The focus turns to life after Kripa. Residents are oriented towards continued AA or NA meetings, finding a sponsor and following a clear plan for maintaining sobriety beyond the residential setting.

  • Transition planning
  • Support-group orientation
  • Continuing recovery
  • Individual sessions
  • Family sessions

Month by month

The treatment process.

1st month - Treatment

The first two weeks focus on detoxification, treatment for substance withdrawal and co-morbid psychiatric problems, accompanied by individual care. This phase is designed to address the feeling of security and love, the very important needs of the person undergoing treatment. Dormitory living and shared rooms help residents understand the community approach, which provides emotional bonding. Observing severe withdrawals of new friends during detoxification helps others understand the gravity of the problem, and senior inmates help care for newcomers during their withdrawals.

The next two weeks include individual sessions and group therapy to strengthen motivation and work through denial.

2nd month - Therapy

Yoga and meditation reinforce the value of discipline, cleanliness and commitment. Daily routine work and conditioning are an essential part of recovery, helping residents value time and prepare to share household work after discharge. Restoring faith in human values is the essence of recovery: residents attend 12-step facilitation built on honesty, acceptance, open-mindedness and willingness. This month also addresses overcoming cravings, dealing with stress, anger and anxiety, and identifying and correcting character defects.

Rebuilding family connections is a primary focus. Family educative sessions help family members accept the individual as a person while condemning the addictive behaviour, address co-dependency, and encourage healthy, open communication within the family.

3rd month - Awareness

This phase throws light on the importance of the role of self in recovery. Every individual is rational, constructive, positive, trustworthy and full of potential; with awareness, each person has an innate capacity to correct the thoughts, feelings and actions that are causing hindrances in their life. Residents are encouraged to detect distorted cognitions and replace them with appropriate ones. Restoring and enriching relationships is a very important part of the recovery process, and residents discover new, healthier ways of coping with feelings - the very essence of abstinence.

Relapse prevention planning addresses the triggers that lead to relapse, with techniques to avoid them.
