Therapies and services

Care for the body, mind and relationships.

A whole-person approach that joins medical supervision with counselling, education, community and family support.

Information is power

Understanding addiction changes how a person can respond to it.

Kripa combines medically informed treatment with the practical, emotional and relational work of recovery. Every service is connected to the same goal: sustained, independent life beyond treatment.

Treatment runs on two dedicated tracks - alcohol de-addiction and drug de-addiction - each with its own medical care, counselling and recovery plan.

The 12 Steps

One day at a time.

Our recovery programme follows the world-renowned 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, a proven and structured path out of active addiction. Guided by counsellors and the fellowship of peers, residents work through the Steps to take honest stock of their lives, repair relationships and rebuild the daily habits that keep recovery steady. Its foundation is simple: honesty, open-mindedness and willingness. And because recovery is lifelong, we connect every resident to the AA and NA fellowships for support long after they leave Kripa.

In the centre’s own words

Each therapy, in full.

Detoxification

It literally means getting rid of the toxins. Detoxification in alcohol/drug dependent persons is the process by which the body of the person is brought back to a normal state of well-being from the state of alcohol/drug dependence. Hence detoxification is the beginning of treatment for alcohol/drug dependence, which needs to be followed by other treatments to deal with the underlying addiction. At Kripa, detoxification is carried out under the supervision of a psychiatrist, physician, nurse, counsellors and care takers.

Group therapy

Group therapy brings about a sense of recovery as residents do it together. They build relationships which serve as systems of support for all clients.

Individual counselling

Individual intensive sessions with the client are an important part of the recovery process. Here the client has intensive one-on-one sessions with their designated counsellor.

Motivational therapy

The client is given motivational therapy on a one-on-one basis to see what motivates them to stay sober and clean, and to build on that to see progress.

Relapse prevention therapy

This focuses on relapse and what one can do so as not to relapse. Residents are equipped with information and skills they can use once they leave the rehabilitation centre.

Psychosocial education

Information is power. We at Kripa firmly believe in educating the client - once he knows, he will do better. Education regarding addiction, the effects it has in all spheres of life, and what can be done about it are explained to the clients. Equipping them with these skills helps them understand addiction and deal with it more effectively. When awareness is given, 50% of the problems are solved.

Indoor activities

Recreational indoor activities are part of the daily schedule, because recovery needs rest and play as well as work.

Yoga / meditation / exercise

Physical health matters too. Yoga, meditation and exercise are part of the routine, instilling discipline and helping residents stay physically fit. A multi-gym is available exclusively for residents.

Family intervention

Active family involvement is a fundamental ingredient in managing mental disorders. The work covers resolving, or at least understanding, areas of conflict between the person with the illness and the family; building a better understanding of the problem, the treatment and its limitations; identifying communication patterns that create conflict and improving them within the family; and enhancing problem-solving and coping strategies and skills.

Regular AA / NA meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous are a worldwide fellowship of men and women who share a desire to stop drinking alcohol and using drugs. At Kripa the 12-step programme of AA/NA is followed, and residents are connected to these self-help groups and members so they can fall back on support when they are out of the treatment facility.
